EA, in a recent conference call talked about expanding their reach for Apex Legends by bringing it to mobile devices. Fortnite and PUGB grew immensely in popularity, especially for mobile. EA wants to take a slice and bring their battle royale game to the market of mobile gaming.
There was not much said on an exact date of when the game will be ported over to mobile devices. Currently, CEO Andrew Wilson stated the publisher is in touch with China, to release Apex Legends in that region. Wilson had this to say:
“We are hugely excited about the future of Apex Legends. Engagement is strong, and we have big plans for the Legends and the world they compete in. We’re in advanced negotiations to bring Apex Legends to China and to mobile, and we will update you on time frames when those negotiations are concluded.”
Apex Legends on mobile, will it work?
I have no doubt that Apex Legends will work on mobile devices, but just how well can the game compete with Fortnite, and PUBG? It will surely be a weird experience, being that Apex Legends is a first person shooter. Not many FPS games on mobile are the most fun to play. In fact, it can be quite easy to mess up. To make up for that, EA will likely take the route Epic Games went, and add in a heavy aim assist to make the game playable.
There are a number of different changes that can be made to the game, just to make it a fun experience on a phone or tablet. As far as the details, we have none so far in regard to what will be changed from console to mobile.
With that being said, I doubt they would take the time to give players the option of playing in first, or third person point of view. That would ruin what made Apex what it is today, as it’s one of the reasons the game is so popular.
In any case, we’ll have to see what happens. I’ll be playing it when it comes to mobile, likely dying a lot in the process, because mobile gaming is difficult gaming.
